Children's Treatment Network Fast Facts

  • Children’s Treatment Network is the first integrated service delivery model for kids and teens with multiple disabilities and their families that provides a single plan of coordinated care through one point of contact
  • The Network is a not-for-profit initiative that links healthcare, education, recreation, social and community services from multiple agencies in Simcoe Country and York Region to create a comprehensive rehabilitation system.
  • The Network will strengthen existing services and add new services available in the community to support children’s rehabilitation and habilitation throughout their developmental years
  • The Network is part of the publicly funded system under the Ministry of Children and Youth Services and services are provided free of charge

Who We Serve

  • The Children’s Treatment Network will serve over 4,200 children from birth to 19 years of age in Simcoe and York who have a range of disabilities and complex conditions, including:
    • Cerebral palsy
    • Muscular dystrophy
    • Acquired brain injury
    • Developmental or learning difficulties
    • Spina bifida
    • Autism or pervasive developmental disorder (PDD)
    • Other chronic or long-term medical conditions that require intensive therapy, specialized equipment or travel to treatment facilities outside the community
  • Services supported by the Network and its members include:
    • Occupational Therapy
    • Speech & Language Therapy
    • Physiotherapy
    • Recreation Therapy
    • Social Work
    • Psychology
    • Nursing
    • Orthotics
    • Audiology
    • Seating and Mobility
    • Augmentative Communications
    • Additional Medical & Child Development Services
  • More than 500 children in Simcoe and York have already been lifted off waitlists through expanded rehabilitation services provided by Children’s Treatment Network and its members
  • Children’s Treatment Network is accessed through a 1-800 number
  • Services are provided through 4 Local Teams made up of professionals from member agencies who take a team approach to each child’s care. Responsibilities include:
    • Coordination of services and care
    • Assessment and reassessment throughout all phases of a child’s development
    • A range of interventions including treatment
    • Transitions (e.g. hospital to home, preschool to school to high school, to adolescence, to adult services – and those triggered by significant changes in the child’s health or family circumstances)
  • The Network is also working closely with organizations such as Sick Kids Hospital and Bloorview Kids Rehab to better coordinate requirements for specialized services

Future Plans

  • Over the next two years Children’s Treatment Network will hire 90 additional professionals and specialists to expand services available locally
  • By 2007 the Network will have 10 Local Teams in place
  • The Network will establish two Resource Centres – one in Simcoe and one in York – to provide additional support for kids, families and professionals.

The Children’s Treatment Network is a new not-for-profit service delivery model for children with multiple disabilities and their families in Simcoe County and York Region. This unique integrated network model will build on the strengths of existing service providers, including healthcare, recreational, educational, social and community resources, to create a revolutionary new system that provides a single point of contact and single plan of care for children and youth from birth to 19 who have special physical, developmental, and communication needs.
