Children's Treatment Network of Simcoe York Resource Centre - Quick Facts

  • The Resource Centre is a focal point for the Network's team approach to each child’s care and development. It is a base for Local Teams made up of professionals and specialists from over 25 member agencies.  These Teams are responsible for coordinating a single plan of care and delivering services for children with multiple disabilities from birth to age 19.  Care plans will evolve as the child's needs change.
  • For the first time, over 1700 kids with multiple disabilities in Simcoe have access to a wide range of enhanced and integrated rehabilitation and child development services at one location.  These services include Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Physiotherapy.
  • The Resource Centre is also bringing badly needed specialty services closer to home for children with multiple disabilities, including Augmentative Communication, Paediatric Diagnostic Assessment and Feeding and Swallowing. Seating and Mobility and Orthotics services will be available in the fall.
  • The Centre has the first dedicated Paediatric Therapy Gym in Simcoe County. In addition to specially equipped therapy and treatment facilities, it also provides additional resources such as therapy observation rooms, on-line computer access and meeting rooms to discuss each child’s progress and development.
  • The site is a meeting point for therapists and other Network professionals to come together for consultation, training, and to access specialty equipment and assessment tools.
  • The Centre will also become a hub for parent education and provide opportunities for families and support groups to meet and discuss common issues and concerns.
  • Children’s Treatment Network Simcoe Resource Centre is located in the newly renovated Common Roof building at 165 Ferris Lane in Barrie, Ontario.
  • This is the first of two Children’s Treatment Network Resource Centres. A second will be opening in York Region early in 2007 to serve the over 2800 children with multiple disabilities in York.  By the end of 2007, eight additional Local Teams of professionals will be on the ground in Simcoe and York, expanding the Network’s capacity to provide coordinated services in the community.
  • Children’s Treatment Network launched toll free access to coordinated rehabilitation and child development services for over 4500 children with multiple disabilities in Simcoe and York in June 2006. By dialing 1-866-377-0286 parents of kids with special physical, developmental and communications needs in Simcoe and York connect to the first service delivery model that links healthcare, recreation, education, social and community resources from over 25 agencies and organizations, and coordinates services for each child.
  • Funded under the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, Network services are free.
